Ok, before I jump in, let me take a few steps back real quick and give you some context regarding my thought process. I passionately talk about Be Bold Coaching ✨ which is about “transforming mindsets to live the Bold Life”. The Bold Life is about knowing what you want in life, who you are, and being intentional and deliberate about how you show up and engage in life because that’s what really creates the experience we call reality.

Now, I believe that public policy greatly influences our reality; those experiences we all have in our personal life and professional life. I mean, whatever interests YOU have, public policy most definitely influences that to some degree as well!

Understanding the process behind how an idea becomes law, helped me gain clarity on how I wanted to participate within the process. I understand how getting involved at the beginning of the legislative process is much more effective in advocacy.

As I paid more attention to my particular interests (HR professional, black woman, minority-owned micro business owner, mother of school-aged black boys in public schools), I realized that my silent voice in those spaces was giving power to other interest groups who had been the loudest about what THEY wanted.

💡✨ My aha moment that changed the way I now think about public policy came in the form of a question: does the “system” favor one identity/ interest group over another OR does it reward those who understand how it works then engages with “it” the most?

Definitely, food for thought!

❓ Do you understand how public policy impacts the quality of life you want to live?

❓ What interests are you advocating for or would you advocate for to protect?
